We are in the month that is probably the busiest all year. Why? Well, it's the holiday season, gifts need to be bought, the food needs to be made, and the decorations need to be the brightest. I began to research Christmas in America and was curious to know the number of Americans who celebrated Christmas, studies show about 96% of Americans celebrate Christmas, source: www.pewresearch.org. That was a high number but the findings of how many of these Americans were actual Christians were about 73% and are dropping. Out of the 73%, one can wonder which are fully saved and expect Jesus as their Lord and Savior. What does the Bible tell us about the birth of Christ?
Isaiah 9:6-7 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
When we look at the first book in the Bible Genesis, talks about the creation and the beauty the Lord has made for His creations. He made the day and night, the Heavens and the Earth, and all the creatures of land and water. After God made all this He then made man and then women. Our God is so good. He made sure that man did not lack anything. Then sin came into the picture and just when we thought it was over and we would continue to live in our sin but God made a promise that there would be an offspring from Eve who will crush and defeat satan. Who was this person? It was Jesus.
Genesis 3:15
I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.
We know that God is a God of promise and He keeps His promises always. God, Almighty and powerful, left the high throne to come to earth fully man and be born of a virgin to come to save the people on this earth.
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.
Although our society pushes Christmas as a way to bring stress because we need so many things in such little time. The true meaning of why we celebrate should change. It shouldn't just be about the physical gifts but about being thankful for the gift of salvation. Yes, we need to remember the reasoning for the birth of Christ but at the same, we also need to remember the crucifixion and the resurrection of Christ. Jesus was born not just to be born and walk the earth as a perfect man but He came to obey His Father. We can't remember the crucifixion and resurrection during Easter but all year.
John 3:17-21 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be seen that his works have been carried out in God.
Use this time to thank God for the birth of Jesus, because only by the Grace of God are we able to be saved. Our king left His throne to be born into a sinful world but walked in perfect peace to die on the cross for our sins and be raised to show that the promise of God in the book of Genesis will be completed. Come to Jesus and your sins will be cleaned and you will have a chance of eternal life with Him.
Romans 10:9-10 Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. Have a Merry Christmas and may you be blessed with the joy of Christ!
O holy night, the stars are brightly shining, Long lay the world in sin and error pining, Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices, For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn. Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices! O night divine, O night when Christ was born! It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth.
