Feeling the pressure and anxiety in the workplace is really hindering especially for the Christian. I always wanted to be the person who was always cheerful at work, without the rolling eyes or smart remarks. Unfortunately, it doesn't go that way for me or most people. We are still human. The stress and constant moving around really gets the best of me in which I feel the conviction in my heart. The Bible says
Colossians 3:23–24; Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
Weeks when I don't pray or spend time with the Lord are when I am just as impatient or worse. The way I love the Lord should reflect the way I am towards others, I should be the light, and comfort, but I'm not most of the time. I watched a sermon today and it was titled "Working as for the Lord" by Steven Lawson, to sum up the sermon Lawson explores how our present vocations matter for eternity, explaining that we bear witness to the truth of the Lord by working hard and putting others before ourselves in our daily labors. As a Christian I forget that the way I am with others really shows my character in Christ.
Colossians 3:22
Slaves, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord.
Everything we do here on Earth should be for the purpose of giving God glory to His kingdom.
This verse is important because although God is our ruler we need to remember that He appointed certain people to rule.
Romans 13:1
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.
Even if it is a school administrator or head doctor at the hospital you work in, we need to remember to respect and follow those in charge.
We need not to do works for just the acceptance of man but to show the Lord that in all we do, we will give Him all the glory and praise.
However, we should not get confused. We DO NOT get into Heaven based on good works but truly believing in our Lord and having true repentance.
Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Let us remind ourselves that the labor in work, school, volunteer work, or in any services you do to remember the purpose of showing God glory. Our purpose as believers is to spread the good news! We are sinners who are saved by the blood bought sacrifice of Jesus Christ who died on the cross for our sins.
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
