GOD'S TIME VS. OURS

Since I turned 25 last year so many thoughts have rushed into my mind. Societal pressures are instilled in us without us even realizing it. By a certain age, you need to accomplish specific goals. For example, I graduated high school at 18 *check*, got accepted into college *check*, graduated college at 22 *check*, and I am now in graduate school *check*. What else is there? Getting married? Having children? In these areas, I can not check off. But what happens when you don't achieve these milestones? Society says you're behind, you need to grow up, or you just to lose hope. We all heard this before I am sure of it. What does scripture say about timing?

Ecclesiastes 3:1

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

This verse is encouraging because we see how time is not based on your age, milestones, or where we think we should be. All of our time and placement of events runs in God's hands. A God who is eternal, all-knowing, forgiving, and graceful. Our God will always have our best interest in everything He does. Our achievements should not be in the hands of what man says. How many times are we wrong because we don’t hold the answers to everything. Most of us (me included) have a hard time deciding what to eat for dinner. How can I be in charge of what a person should accomplish? Why not trust in a God who formed you and created you exactly how He sees fit.

Habakkuk 2:3 For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.

Although marriage is a desire that comes from the Lord, waiting for a Godly man and someone who desires to seek after Him is worth the wait. This also goes for men waiting for a wife. Someone waiting for a new house, a child, a new job etc. When trusting in God you are able to see the joy in the waiting process in these areas. You are also able to see the work that is being done by God behind the scenes.

This world desires everything that is temporary! Remember that those who believe and trust in Jesus Christ and who repent can have eternal happiness in Heaven. For example, divorce rates are shown to be the highest since 1971. In the study from www.worldpopulationreview.com shows just in New Jersey alone the divorce rates are at 73%. Why is this so? This happens because people don’t value marriage as it should be. Under the authority of God. Where am I going with this? Well, let's go back to the first verse I used.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

Moments are going to come when we think or feel we are ready for something but in reality we are not. Who better to know what areas of life I am ready for than the One who knew me since before I was born? From personal experience on waiting for things that are not sinful, I can see the Lord working in my life in other areas that are just as important. Dwelling on things although are sweet things can really pull you away from the bigger picture and the growth that the Lord is preparing in your life. While Society may tell you to take matters into your own hands, Christians leave it on to Gods hands. As sinful people when we take matters into our own hands, things get messy and messy quickly. We don’t have the vision of eternity because our minds can’t think that far ahead. We definitely don’t have the answers or know what’s going to happen even a year from now, but the Lord does. Our creator created us in His image and to glorify Him.

Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.

If you feel like this, that you are stuck in life and you're hoping for so much more. Take a second and mentally put yourself in the position you want to be in and think about how you would react to it. Are you truly ready? As humans we get excited with the rush but then the feeling goes away and we’re discontent all over again. We will only be content with the things that we have once we realize that the Lord has a purpose for your time in waiting. Whether you are waiting for marriage, children, a new home, your dream job, or good health. Where we are now is by God’s Grace alone. Coming to the Lord with a heart of true repentance and love for Him will change the way you see your time in the waiting process. God is a forgiving God and He knows our hearts and hears our prayers. Be patient and trust that you are waiting because the Lord who knows all things AND is truly working in your life right now!

Romans 5:6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

This past week I turned a quarter century. As soon as October 1st hit, my mind and did a flashback of everything I’ve done until this...
